Goodwill’s vision is that all people will have the opportunity to learn, work, and achieve their greatest potential. For those less fortunate,
“a hand up, not a hand out” is what we provide. We achieve this through education, training and employment services for both youth and adults across Central Arizona. In 2006, our human service programs served over 10,000 Arizona residents in their quest for self-sufficiency. Goodwill helped create over $30 million in purchasing power in the community through 2,300 job placements.
Of course the most significant source of funds for our community programs is the receipt and sale of donated goods at our Goodwill retail stores.
In 2006, our stores turned 36 tons of donations from more than 730,000 individuals into the revenue necessary to fund store and organizational operations, and to support our
programs. That means that every dollar that we receive in grants or cash donations is used directly in program services.
Although we are a non-profit business, we operate in a very competitive and challenging environment. We compete with for-profit thrift stores for donations and we challenge ourselves to increase efficiency in our operations and effectiveness in our community human service efforts. With Arizona being one of the fastest growing states in the nation, Goodwill of Central Arizona is growing too.
We are remodeling old stores and building new ones. We are expanding the locations for the human service
programs that we offer. We now employ over 1,900 people in Arizona!
