Goodwill Needs More Vehicle Donations

in

Did you know that your old vehicle can help Goodwill teach new skills to disadvantaged individuals so they can get on the road to success?

If you donate your old clunker to our GoodWheels Auto Sales program, you'll walk away with a nice tax deduction and the knowledge that your gift will help central Arizona residents find work!

Goodwill desperately needs your donations now. GoodWheels Auto Sales accepts almost anything - running or not. We are seeking cars, trucks, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, scooters, boats, jet skis, canoes, recreational vehicles, buses, lawn tractors, utility trailers and even airplanes!

To start the donation process, call (602) 416-6278. Let us know that you have a vehicle you'd like to donate and our friendly staff will walk you through the process. It's easy!

GoodWheels Auto Sales provides free Valleywide pick-up/towing for all donated vehicles unless the donor delivers the item to any of our retail stores in central Arizona or the Main Campus, 417 N 16th St., Phoenix. The donor will need to fill out a short form which asks for some personal information and details about the vehicle. In addition, GoodWheels Auto Sales will need a transferable title for the vehicle and can process all out-of-state titles.

Ideally, Goodwill would like to receive at least 20 donated vehicles per month (based on average selling price). Of course, we will gladly accept as many as vehicles as our supporters can provide.

You can also buy a used vehicle by visiting our online GoodWheels Auto Sales lot! Goodwill utilizes 100 percent of the vehicles' proceeds to operate our 36 human service programs that help youth and adults prepare for and find work. Our programs range from GED classes to Rehabilitation Services for individuals with disabilities.

"I believe donating to a nonprofit charity is a good thing any way you look at it," said John Wyers, Vehicle Specialist for GoodWheels Auto Sales. "Goodwill has an advantage over most vehicle programs because we practice hands-on selling; we see, touch, evaluate, appraise and market the vehicle from start to finish. Many charities are using for-profit vehicle donation processing ... and receive a check in the mail for a percentage of the proceeds after resale."

NOTE: The Internal Revenue Service recently released two publications on car donations, addressing what individuals and charities need to know when giving or receiving donated vehicles. Publication 4302, A Charity's Guide to Car Donations (PDF), addresses issues that charities should know when operating a car donation program. Publication 4303, A Donor 's Guide to Car Donations (PDF), targets individuals who decide to hand over their cars. Read more. The publications were released less than a week after the U.S. Senate Finance Committee held a hearing on the governance of nonprofit entities, during which testimony was given on how an auto auction operates.
