Thousands visit new Phoenix store during March 20-22 Opening weekend
Almost 3,800 shoppers visited Goodwill of Central Arizona’s 41st retail store during its March 20-22 grand-opening weekend at 3901 E. Thunderbird Road in Phoenix.
Arizona residents have been flocking to Goodwill stores in today’s stressed economy in order to save money on clothing and household goods.
More than 500 people were lined up before the doors opened 9 AM on March 20 to take advantage of the fantastic deals and to donate items. Shoppers also entered raffles to win prizes and Goodwill gift certificates. Representatives from Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon’s office, city council and the fire department were among the dignitaries in attendance.
"I have been looking forward to this store opening," said Elina Bernal of Phoenix. "I shop Goodwill mainly because of the prices. It’s also good to know that Goodwill helps people who need jobs."
Other shoppers agreed with Bernal’s sentiments about the prices and quality of items that Goodwill offers. They also believe it will be good for the community, especially when the Career Center opens in the future.
"This is a beautiful store," said Jim Teter, President/CEO of Goodwill of Central Arizona. "We are confident that this store will serve the community well while serving as a great source for donations. We expect this store to be one of our top locations."
Donating and shopping at Goodwill keeps millions of pounds of gently used items out of landfills and puts them into the hands of those who can reuse them. Furthermore, 90 cents of every dollar Goodwill earns returns to the organization’s community programs that help individuals prepare for and find work.
Regular store hours are 9 AM to 9 PM Mondays through Saturdays, and 10 AM to 6 PM on Sundays. The Career Center hours are 9 AM to 9 PM Mondays through Fridays.
