Goodwill Celebrates GED Program Graduates

in

Did you know that Goodwill of Central Arizona offers a full-service General Educational Development (GED) program for youth and adults who wish to attain their academic goals?

In order to fulfill its Commitment to Put People to Work, Goodwill of Central Arizona realizes the importance of providing academic support services to the public such as one-on-one and group tutoring and the GED program.

In May, Goodwill hosted a ceremony in the Bulpitt Auditorium at Phoenix College, to honor recent GED program graduates.

One of the graduates, Carlos Osuna-Garay, said that before he found Goodwill, there were a number of barriers that were standing in his way for success.

Angela Barriga, a GED Learning Center Educator in Chandler, said that Osuna-Garay knew in order to get to the next level in his life, he would have to earn his GED.

Osuna-Garay enrolled at Goodwill's Chandler Learning Center on January 26, 2009 and took the official GED examination on Saturday, February 21, 2009.

Osuna-Garay said that Barriga was a tremendous help in his efforts to acquire his GED.

"Angela was very supportive and flexible with my work schedule," said Osuna Garay. "She encouraged me to study, I took two pre-tests and I got my GED within a month."

Goodwill of Central Arizona's academic services are open to the public and are offered at the following locations:

• 417 N. 16th St., Phoenix (GED Program)
• 930 N. Alma School Road, Chandler (Learning Center)
• 6750 W. Peoria Ave., Peoria (Learning Center)
