Valley shoppers who are searching for excellent bargains on new and gently used furniture can find comfort in knowing that we opened our “Redesign by Goodwill” store, 2115 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale. A total of 1,086 customers purchased items from “Redesign by Goodwill” during the June 12-13 grand opening weekend.
Customers were greeted with free cupcakes, coffee, tea and soda while they shopped for great one-of-a-kind items at great low prices. The grand opening also gave customers an opportunity to learn more about Goodwill’s “Redesign Your Room” contest which invites Valley residents to submit a photo of a room in their home they wish to redecorate. The contest winner will receive a $500 Goodwill gift card to use at our new Redesign by Goodwill furniture store in Scottsdale and a one-hour interior design consultation with Cristi Pettibone, the owner of City Chic Interior Design.
The new “Redesign by Goodwill” furniture store is housed in what used to be known as our Scottsdale location. Jackie Halleen, Vice President of Retail Operations, said that since Goodwill was still leasing the space, it was an excellent opportunity to test this unique sales concept.
Moreover, Halleen stated that this particular area is ideal for a furniture store because it is in close proximity to the Arizona State University-Tempe campus.
“ASU students who are looking for furniture and other unique items for their dorms and apartments will enjoy shopping here,” said Halleen. “Anybody who loves Goodwill will find tremendous values on the one-of-a-kind items that we receive from our donors.”
The “Redesign by Goodwill” store has a 13,000 square foot showroom filled with trendy, decorator-oriented furniture that is either new or gently used. Customers will find new mattresses, bedroom sets, sofas, dining tables, lamps and just about anything else that is available in a typical furniture specialty shop. Moreover, the location is staffed with “furniture specialists” who will provide expertise and assistance to customers.
Customer Steven Cobb and his daughter, Chloe, were thrilled with the grand opening celebration.
“This event is much more grand than I thought it would be,” said Cobb. “This store has a good selection.”
Cobb stated that he and his family “shop at Goodwill once a month. The mission is part of the reason, but we think of ourselves as a green family. We’d prefer to reuse household items rather than buying new. It’s the ultimate recycling.”
Halleen said Goodwill plans to offer specials and deals specifically for “Redesign by Goodwill” customers. The “Redesign by Goodwill” store is NOT part of the normal retail store sales cycles.
“Most importantly, this store will enable us to generate the funds that allow Goodwill to help Arizonans find jobs and become self-sufficient,” said Halleen.
Regular hours for the new furniture store are 9 AM to 7 PM Monday – Saturday and 10 AM to 6 PM Sunday. Goodwill will accept all clothing and household item donations at this location.
