Free 2011 Tax Help at Goodwill

Free 2011 Tax Help at Goodwill

Worried about the costs of having your taxes prepared by a professional?

Fret no more because Goodwill of Central Arizona, the City of Phoenix, and the IRS are partnering to provide the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program to the public for FREE.

Scheduling is available every half hour between 9 AM and 1:30 PM, every Saturday between February 4 and March 10. The average visit usually takes about an hour.

Individuals earning less than $50,000 (joint filings earning less than $100,000) are eligible to receive this no-cost service. Certified volunteers work individually with tax payers to file annual income tax returns and maximize eligible credits and deductions while minimizing taxes owed.

Assistance is provided for both state and federal taxes. Recipients of this service leave with completed documentation for recordkeeping and tax returns can be electronically filed. The taxpayer can elect to receive refunds directly deposited into a checking account or by mail.

It is not available to people who are self-employed or those who received income from rental properties. It is also not available for businesses of any size.
