Top 10 Spring Cleaning Tips for 2019

Spring is officially here which means the cooler months are a thing of the past. For many of us, this also means we’ll be doing some spring cleaning.

There’s a reason there’s such a thing as spring cleaning. Dust and other impurities can build up on surfaces and windows, especially when the home is being heated. Also, because we tend to stay indoors during the winter, we can accumulate large piles of winter clothing and other stuff that seems to grow through the season.

Spring is our time to start fresh and renew our homes. If you’re gearing up for some spring cleaning, check out these tips before you get started.

  1. Go room by room. Keep your efforts focused by starting and completing one room at a time.
  2. Make your own household cleaner. Mix white cleaning vinegar and mild dish soap with warm water for a milder all-purpose cleaner.
  3. Store and donate old clothes. Use two boxes when going through clothes: keep for hand-me-downs or donate to Goodwill.
  4. Wash windows. When the weather warms up, you may notice a film on your windows. Spring is a great time to freshen up your windows.
  5. Get rid of your storage. If you’ve been storing furniture or other items in your garage that you haven’t used in over a year, it may be time to donate.
  6. Clean your car! Spring cleaning doesn’t have to only be for the house. Cars need a deep clean every now and then.
  7. Organize and clean out kitchen cabinets. Go through your kitchen and donate supplies you no longer need to make room for a more organized space.
  8. Donate old toys. If your kids have grown out of their toys, donate them to Goodwill.
  9. Go through sports equipment. Sports equipment that was once used, but is no longer needed, can be donated to Goodwill.
  10. Organize your phone. Delete old apps and organize the ones you do use for a much-needed technology facelift. It’s also a good idea to back-up your photos!

Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona is deeply rooted in the local community. When you choose to drop off your no-longer-needed items at Goodwill, you give new life to clothing and other items that would otherwise be thrown away.
